Representing a few different countries, these folk horror films offer diverse and frightening narratives.
All February long, I will be focusing on folklore and folk horror. For all my Folk Horror February posts, click here.
Here are five films currently streaming for free or by subscription service that all have a strong folk horror element to it. If you’re into found footage, you’re in luck because three of these happen to be of that subgenre: Webcast, Borderlands/Final Prayer, and Dabbe: Cin Çarpmasi. These five films represent folk horror from four countries: United States, England, Switzerland and Turkey. Webcast, Borderlands, and Dabbe: Cin Çarpmasi are the scariest of the bunch, but my pick for the scariest would be Borderlands. Jug Face and Sennentuntschi have really strong female lead performances, and are more emotionally stirring than the others. That said, all five films all offer something interesting and different, and I hope this list gets some new fans to these movies that I really like.
