A version of this post appeared on the celebrity gossip & pop culture blog, Oh No They Didn’t. After making that post, I realized I could do this as a weekly or biweekly feature on my site. So remember to check back here for an updated list.
For the weekend of 2/15:
Need something to watch? Here is a random assortment of horror films available on various streaming platforms. Apologies in advance for anyone outside the US who may not have these films available to them.
Tumbbad (2018)
I haven’t seen this yet, but it sounds like it could be worth checking out. A young boy Vinayak Rao is affected by a personal tragedy. His encounter with a wretched old lady who knows of a buried treasure sets him on the path to greed. He grows up to explore the local legend of a monster named Hastar and his gold medallions.
Available to stream at: Prime
28 Days Later (2002)
If you haven’t seen this yet, it’s a must-watch. Especially if you like movies about zombies or the infected. Great cast and soundtrack with an iconic opening sequence. One of the best horror films of the 2000s, and possibly all time.
Available to stream at: Hulu
Poltergeist (1982)
Tobe Hooper’s classic is now available to stream on Netflix. I haven’t seen it since I was young, so personally I’m excited about revisiting it.
Available to stream at: Netflix
Identity (2003)
Underrated gem. Complete strangers stranded at a remote desert motel during a raging storm soon find themselves the target of a deranged murderer. As their numbers thin out, the travelers begin to turn on each other, as each tries to figure out who the killer is.
Available to stream at: Sony Crackle
The Most Dangerous Game (1932)
Let’s go way back to one of the best films ever made. It’s filmed beautifully in black and white. The tension and excitement still hold up today.
Available to stream at: Prime, Snag Films, Tubi TV
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986)
A disturbingly realistic film that lives up to its name.
Available to stream at: Prime; Shudder
Lake Placid (1999)
Every weekend is a good weekend for a creature feature, and there’s no excuse why you haven’t watched Lake Placid yet.
Available to stream at: Crackle
Hellraiser (1987)
Within a year, horror cinema went from Henry to Hellraiser – pretty impressive. Hellraiser is one of my favorite horror films of all time
Available to stream at: Hulu; Shudder; ConTV (free)
Hereditary (2018)
Horror fans seem to love or hate it, but if you haven’t seen it yet, I think it’s time. I found it to be one of the better horror movies in recent years with an incredible performance from Toni Collette.
Available to stream at:Prime
When a Stranger Calls Back (1993)
I can’t be the only one who found this movie terrifying. Watch it.
