For this series, I’ll be recommending free horror movies currently available to stream on Vudu.
Vudu is a streaming platform that offers a wide selection of horror movies, both rental and free with ads.
I don’t work for Vudu and they aren’t paying me to do these posts.
I’m just someone trying to spread the love of horror movies!
Movies to Watch
For found footage fans, Grave Encounters and Antrum are both fun, but very different, entries in the subgenre. Antrum is admittedly a divisive pick; I personally love the movie but can understand why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea – it’s a stylized gimmick. But if you’re willing to accept the premise and go along with it, I think you’ll find it enjoyable. Grave Encounters is standard jump scare fare.
If you’re looking for an actual true horror story, Cropsey is a disturbing but great choice – it’s about an urban legend in NYC that segues into the real-life child kidnapper on Staten Island. If that sounds too depressing, there’s Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, a horror comedy about horror movie tropes that’s aged really well.
Arthouse horror fans should consider the Innkeepers, which is a Ti West helmed ghost story that’s atmospheric in a gorgeous setting (an old hotel). Two international films that deserve a watch are The Soul Collector and Inside, which couldn’t be more different from each other; the latter is only recommended if you have the stomach to handle extreme gore. The Soul Collector is a South African horror film that is fairly slow but technically impressive and stands apart in the genre with its original story.
Lastly, for those who want horror with a sci-fi bent I highly recommend The Endless, which is about a UFO death cult.

If you’re interested, I also recommend free horror movies on Tubi, here.
I link to Letterboxd throughout. If you’re on Letterboxd, feel free to add me. I log every movie I watch.
